The School of Visual Arts and The University of New Mexico - Taos invite you to apply to The UNM x SVA Summer 2023 Fellowship. This new partnership supports one fellow to attend an in-person summer residency program at The School of Visual Arts in New York City during the Summer 2023 program.
The School of Visual Arts (SVA) Artist Residency programs are internationally-renowned and offer artists, designers and creative thinkers time, space and a supportive community in which to develop ideas and focus on their artistic direction.
On-campus residents each have their own semi-private studio housed within SVA’s MFA Fine Arts department. Work in the studio is supported by individual studio visits from core faculty as well as from visiting artists, critics and arts professionals. The program culminates in an open studio exhibition, which enables the participants to present their work to the public.
With an emphasis on shared experience and community building, SVA's Artist Residency Programs provide a platform where participants can build and expand their networks and create lifelong connections with artists, critics, curators and other arts professionals. A robust schedule of group and one-on-one critiques helps to establish critical as well as social engagement within the SVA Artist Residency Program community and beyond.
Current and recent faculty and guest lecturers include Heather Darcy-Bhandari, Ofri Cnaani, Media Farzin, Mark Thomas Gibson, Kameelah Janan Rasheed, Jerry Saltz, Jason Stopa, Mark Tribe, Carlos Rosales-Silva, Miguel Luciano, and Caroline Woolard.

Each year, The American Turkish Society offers a special scholarship to Turkish artists to attend one of SVA’s on-campus Artist Residency Programs. Please see available programs below:
On-Campus
- Fine Arts: Residency in Contemporary Practices
The program is open only to active professional artists residing in Turkey who are not represented by a gallery. Graduate and post-graduate students may apply. Applicants should have fluency in English sufficient enough for engaging in meaningful dialogue with other participants. For on-campus programs: tuition, housing, round-trip airfare, visa expenses, transportation in New York City, a stipend for living expenses, and a stipend for necessary art materials are provided.
Now in its fourth decade, this internationally renowned program offers artists an opportunity to work intensively in a private studio and receive individual critiques from faculty selected for their diversity, professional achievement and critical engagement. Artists are supported in their painting, drawing, printmaking, installation and mixed-media work, and are encouraged to push their practice to the next level, aesthetically and conceptually. Attention is given to contextualizing resident artists' work within contemporary interdisciplinary discourse.
